Drawing on the offbeat charm of late-’70s New York (à la Jonathan Richman) and the shimmering guitar pop of early ’90s Australia—Falling Joys, Clouds, and Flying Nun-era jangle—their songs balance classic pop instincts with an artful, slightly skewed edge.
