A tropical Wednesday night in Sydney didn’t deter many for the first Sydney show in 20 odd years for Corrosion Of Conformity (as a 4 piece that is!)

There was already a decent crowd for first support Comacozer, who pounded out a set of heavy space doom instrumentals. The guitar is fulla greasy dirt and wah, and the rhythm section supplies some heavyhanded lysergic throbbing. With some big sounds, and a cool vibe, they provided as a pretty neat entrée for the show. Continue reading

We arrived too late to catch the support, Peter Black in acoustic mode. Sorry mate!

The stage setup looked like a well-lived in share house, replete with ice bucket, some tasty beverages, tulips etc. Just missing a bong and sandwich maker! So after some apparent minor delays, John Garcia and guitarist Ehren Groban took the stage (well, mosey’d on to the stage and dragged up the armchairs!), and prior to their collective musical excursion, Garcia gave a rundown on how much he dug the chance to be doing what he was doing with these (classic) tunes, and how he loved that we were all there to support it. Gracious, and humble and clearly battling through some nerves or shyness, he came across as an easy going dude. Continue reading

KING PARROT ‘Ugly Produce’ Album Review.

Melbourne grind core / yobcore legends King Parrot have unleashed their third LP, a character building behemoth called Ugly Produce. The moniker suits the album to a T! It’s a bruising and relentless collection of blast-beats from drummer Todd Hansen, searing guitars and guttural, tortured vocal mayhem.

‘Entrapment’ is used as the launchpad for the sonic time bomb that follows. The two jackhammers fucking rhythmic attack delivers a powerful impetus for the blaze of guitars and Matt Young’s crazed vocal “styling’s”.

Who but an Aussie band could write a tune called ‘Piss Wreck’. Spell check won’t even recognize it as English, but we all know someone who should embrace this song as a personal anthem. It’s a cool song too. Continue reading

Tonight was a night to melt your face, a warmth in this cold night, where thou shalt rock out with a blend of genre bending and aggressive rawk!! From the punkrock, ska and hallucinogenic rock, The Dwarves at the Imperial tonight commandeered them all!

Legal Aliens kicked the night off in fine fashion to a decent crowd filling slowly as they played. Their singer Mal wasn’t afraid of the crowd, in amongst it from the start. Think X-Ray Spex if they were more street punk. They sang life relevant lyrics to rock to. Like a well-oiled machine, this band hustled and entertained from the outset. Their songs included ‘Meta Cognition’, ‘Mummy Rescue Me’, ‘Playin’ With Monsters’, and a Beastie Boys cover ‘Deal With It’. Continue reading
