The attacks that took place in Paris and especially at the Bataclan on the evening of November 13, 2015 was very close to home for a lot of us. I and a lot of my friends from all around the world go to see Eagles of Death Metal whenever they’re in town. It could’ve been any of us killed. Friends of ours know people that were at that gig and although one of them was shot, they luckily survived. Many of them did not. The scars of all of the Paris attacks run very deeply, as they do with events like this that happen throughout many countries daily. The attack at the Bataclan seems so far removed from everything that Eagles of Death Metal are all about; Peace, Love and Death Metal.

When I was asked to stage manage a charity gig at Cherry Bar by Cassie Walker from Peachy Entertainment, the answer was of course a resounding YES. I’m very proud to have been a part of Zipper Down Under, organised by Cassie and Ash Lightning from Atomic Riot. The night included a huge line-up of Melbourne musicians covering the latest EoDM release, Zipper Down as well as a set of their greatest hits. The event raised over $8000 which is a MASSIVE effort! All of which goes to Josh Homme’s (EoDM / QOTSA) Sweet Stuff Foundation for the survivors and the families of all those affected by the Paris attacks.

A massive thanx to all those involved in the night including MC James Young and the staff of Cherry Bar, Red for the amazing sound, those that donated their time and played EoDM songs including Henry Wagons, The Tarantinos, Pretty City, Coffin Wolf, Clea Freeland, If You See Her Say Hello and the Pigeons of Shit Metal made up of members of Atomic Riot, Drifter, Low Fly Incline, Sexy/Heavy and The Val, DJ Mermaid, burlesque from Ferri Maya; the artists and photographers who donated for the auction; Adam Russ (Right Eye Media Australia), Kanye Lens, Mary Rocklust, Pascal D’Bras, Josie Bones, and of course all the punters that came along and made the night a massive success! You all SOLD OUT Cherry and filled it to capacity! It was so great to see the passion and love from the bands playing and the punters in Cherry, all in aid of raising a glass to those affected by the Paris attacks and the Eagles of Death Metal.

The success doesn’t stop there though, there’s a BigCartel page setup by Peachy Entertainment to continue to raise money selling ‘Zipper Down Under’ pins, jewellery, and Jesse Hughes prints from Pascal D’Bras, and once it’s been recorded, a cover of the EoDM track ‘I Love You All The Time’ by the Pigeons of Shit Metal.

Please go and check out the page and spend some dollars for a great cause!
